Former political prisoner Einullah Fatullaev founds human rights organization in Azerbaijan

In Azerbaijan, Einullah Fatullaev, a former political prisoner, Chief Editor of the newspapers "Real Azerbaijan" and "Gyundelik Azerbaijan" (Daily Azerbaijan), announced establishing of the public movement "For Human Rights". According to the Einullah Fatullaev's speech at the press conference, creation of the public movement was caused by "systematic and wilful violation of human rights in Azerbaijan".

Einullah Fatullaev called the struggle for human rights in the authoritarian countries to be very important matter and urged all victims of injustice to join the movement and "to start an active struggle for their rights". According to Einullah Fatullaev, he has already found the office for the new organization and submitted the documents for registration to the Ministry of Justice and to the international organizations – to get international support.

Former political prisoner made an emphasis on the need to establish a civilian control over penitentiary institutions. "The situation in these institutions has not changed much since Soviet times," said Einullah Fatullaev.

Besides, he considers it is important to pay special attention to the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic (NAR), where the human rights situation is the most oppressive one.

According to Einullah Fatullaev, leadership of the new public movement will not interfere with its journalistic activities. He added that he had already appealed to five donor organizations asking to support the renewal of his newspapers' publications and received positive responses from them. The journalist plans to release new numbers of the newspapers in September.

Einullah Fatullaev received an invitation from the British "PEN-club" to visit London in the nearest future. He became the first Azerbaijani dissident, who was mentioned by the book of the "PEN-club" about dissident writers all over the world for the last 50 years.
