“Zenit” fans detained in Makhachkala released

The fans of “Zenit” of St. Petersburg detained in Makhachkala after a conflict with the local riot squad and “Anzhi” fans were released, protocols of administrative infraction were drawn up concerning them.

An extraordinary stir could be observed at the match between “Zenit” and “Anzhi” on July, 24, in Makhachkala. “Dinamo” stadium was packed, over 15 thousand people were present. Several incidents took place during the game.

“Zenit” fans started throwing lit flares into the neighbouring sector, these actions were suppressed by the police personnel. A banner hung out by the guests from St. Petersburg caused “Anzhi” fans’ indignation. The match was held up from time to time for several minutes because of disturbances, scuffles between the local fans and the guests occurred in the tribunes, some of their participants were detained at the exit of the tribunes.

“Zenit’s” press attaché Evgeny Gusev accused law enforcement bodies of the tense situation. “There was an open passage for “Anzhi” fans to our fans’ tribune which should have been isolated”, Gusev said in his interview to “R-Sport” agency.

“Anzhi’s” chief trainer Gaji Gajiev blamed “Zenit” fans for the incidents. “A petard was launched into one party’s fans, the other one put up an aggressive reaction. Emotional Dagestani fans reacted to the launched missile. A lot of people come to the stadium and all of them cannot be expected to be calm and moderate”, “Rossiiskaya Gazeta” quotes Gajiev.
