Ibragim Yaganov: "Those who attacked me are against peace in the country"

Ibragim Yaganov, the leader of the "Khase" and a member of the Public Council under the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD), believes that the attack on him could be organized by "semi-criminal groupings" that exist in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR); he asserts that "he knows the customer" but didn't mention him.

Mr Yaganov received brain concussion, an open head injury and bruises.

According to eyewitnesses, he was attacked by five persons, who disappeared from the place of the incident in two Lada Priora cars without license plates.

An identikit of one of them was made.

The victim argues that the current attack on him, as well as two previous ones (on April 30, 2010, and December 5, 2009, – note of the "Caucasian Knot"), are links of one chain. According to his story, they will not be investigated.

"The services that managed to solve the attack on the Baksan HPP in a few days have failed to solve at least one out of quite many attacks on public activists," said Yaganov.

He added that he had been preparing a conference with participation of Kabardian, Balkar and Cossack public organizations.

"We had decided to convoke a conference in order to start the interethnic dialogue and settle the existing disagreements by putting a full stop in them once and forever," said Yaganov.

According to the leader of the "Khase", the main issue in the KBR is not the land issue, but the issue of security. "Should the republic's authorities have found some form of dialogue and done at least anything to combat this blatant injustice, the protests moods that degenerate into ugly forms had gone away. They just hadn't appeared," he added.
