Public Council of NCFD condemns beating of Ibragim Yaganov

Members of the Public Council of North Caucasus Federal District (NCFD) expressed their indignation about beating of Ibragim Yaganov, a member of the Council and a leader of the public movement "Khase", in the capital of Kabardino-Balkaria, and appealed to the leader of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) to take the investigation into the incident under his personal control.

On July 19 in the evening in Nalchik in Moskovskaya Street Ibragim Yaganov was attacked by unidentified persons. The attackers were armed with iron cores and iron pipe.

"This crime is in line with the attacks on other well-known public activists of the North Caucasus. It was planned and executed by those who were short of more powerful arguments than iron cores," states the appeal of the members of the Public Council of NCFD, received by the "Caucasian Knot".

The Public Council of NCFD urged law enforcement agencies of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic to conduct a thorough investigation into the crime and promptly inform the society about its findings.

Alexander Khloponin, Vice-Premier of the Russian Federation, Plenipotentiary Envoy of the President to the NCFD, said that he took the investigation into this crime under his personal control. "I have instructed the central office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) in the North Caucasus to inform me about the investigation on a daily basis," said Mr Khloponin.
