70 refugee families evicted from buildings in Tbilisi

In Georgia about 70 refugee families from South Ossetia and Abkhazia received a written warning from the Ministry of Internally Displacement Persons, Resettlement and Refugees to leave the building they occupied till July 18. In case of disobedience they are threatened to be evicted forcibly.

According to Lasha Chkhartishvili, a representative of the Conservative Party, refugees from four places of temporary residence in total are to be evicted, the IA "News-Georgia" reported.

The document, which, particularly, the refugees living in the Uznadze Street received, noted that the building in which they were living, belonged to the state and was not a place of compact residence. Accordingly, the refugees should leave it in 10-day term, which expires on Monday, July 18. If they do not leave the building within the specified period, they will be evicted by the police forcibly.

The Ministry proposes refugees an alternative accommodation in Bakurtsihe, Lagodekhi (Kakheti Region), Chkorotsku and Zugdidi (Samegrelo Region). Meanwhile, the refugees stress that they are residents of the entirely different region and do not intend to move to Samegrelo Region, the "InterPressNews" reports.

According to Lasha Chkhartishvili, the authorities' proposal "means in practice that they will be doomed to starvation. The refugees demand to provide them with accommodation in a place where they will be able to find jobs. They demand basic living conditions."
