Grozny: teenager suspected of blinding aircraft pilot with laser detained

Today the officers of the Interior Division for Grozny District of Chechnya detained a teenager who, according to the law enforcement agents, nearly blinded the pilot of the aircraft. An attempt of blinding took place on July 3 in the evening, when the plane was landing at the airport of Grozny.

"Last night while landing a pilot reported to the approach control service of the airport of Grozny that from the territory of Grozny District, from the ground, a laser beam is directed to the aircraft. After the incident the personnel of the Interior Division for Grozny District was raised by alarm. Due to the prompt actions of the officers, the attacker was detained within the hour," reported the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Chechnya at its website.

A suspect was an under-age resident of the village of Petropavlovskaya, born in 1994. "For the first time the teenager was released with a warning, but if such an incident happens again, the teenager will face very strict measures," wrote the MIA in its statement.

Relatives of the teenager promised that similar incident would never happen again. The underage boy himself explained that he bought a portable laser device several days ago and promised not to take the device in his hands again. The teenager was registered at the inspection for underage children affairs, the "ITAR-TASS" reports.

Today the leader of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov ordered to remove laser pointers of sales from all outlets of the republic, to prevent cases of blinding pilots of aircrafts, announced the website of the leader and the Government of the Chechen Republic.
