Tsiklauri: Georgia to open memorial to Circassians' genocide

Georgia will commemorate the genocide of the Circassian nation committed by the Russian Empire. As reported by Nugzar Tsiklauri, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Diasporas and the Caucasus, it is also planned to create a cultural centre of Circassians.

"Most probably, the memorial will be erected on the Black Sea coast, since Circassians had a tradition: on the day when they commemorate the genocide they used to throw flowers into the sea," said Tsiklauri.

He also noted that the Circassian Cultural Centre will exhibit materials on the genocide, the "GHN" reports.

"We plan to raise the issue of recognition of the Circassians' genocide in the European Union, European Parliament, and in all international organizations, where Georgia is represented, and where there is a chance to do it," Lasha Tordiya, the head of the Georgian Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights and Civil Integration, told on May 20 the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
