Chechnya: power agents refuse to give Shamil Omarov's body to parents, relatives assert

The OVD (Interior Division) of the city of Gudermes (Chechen Republic) refuses to give out the body of Shamil Omarov, a resident of Dagestan, without a certificate about the composition of his family and a document from the Investigatory Committee that he was not a militant, his father told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

After collecting all the necessary documents, his relatives intend to immediately take Shamil's body for burial.

"If necessary, we are ready to go to court; we shouldn't reconcile with the fact that an innocent man was blamed as a militant just because his cousins 'went to the forest'," said Madina Saitemirova, Shamil's aunt.

"Yesterday, my nephew's son turned three years old; and this was a sort of a 'present' made to him. We'll do our best to restore the good name of our Shamil," said Madina.

She also told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that when Shamil's father went to Gudermes to identify the body, an OVD employee showed him Shamil Omarov's photos on the computer.

"These photos showed Shamil dressed in camouflage, close to a man in a mask with a submachine gun in his hands. I'm sure it was all fabricated; Shamil never had such photos; it was all deliberately simulated," the woman said.

The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Dagestan reported that they still have no information about Omarov's identification.

So far, there are no comments available of the Chechen MIA.
