Residents of Ingushetia tell about oppressions in Pyatigorsk SIZO

Detainees kept at the SIZO (pre-trial prison) of the city of Pyatigorsk are oppressed based on their ethnicity and religion. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed about it by relatives of the residents of Ingushetia kept there.

The SIZO personnel create obstacles for detainees to pray and abuse and insults their religious feelings.

"At first, they were finding trifle faults, by, for example, prohibiting watching TV. Then they began taking away prayer mats, and now - even the Koran, the Muslim sacred book," a detainee's wife, who preferred to stay anonymous, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to detainees' relatives, natives from Chechnya and Ingushetia are put into more severe custody conditions. If prayer mats and the Koran books are detected in cells, inmates are placed into dungeon.

"The SIZO employees themselves say that their boss Streltsov does not hide his negative attitude to detainees from Ingushetia and Chechnya," said a relative who preferred to stay anonymous. Besides, according to his story, the Pyatigorsk SIZO still contains TB patients together with healthy people, as the "Caucasian Knot" had reported earlier.

The SIZO administration refused to comment to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent the information of detainees' relatives, saying that such data is provided only on an official request. At the same time, they gave no contact data for a written request and stopped the telephone conversation.

Let us also remind you that earlier the Islamic Committee of Russia had stated that a convicted resident of Ingushetia, who is serving his sentence at Corrective Institution IK-6, located in the Stavropol Territory, was oppressed by the colony administration.
