Georgia: changes in cellular networks

On June 20 the numbering of cellular networks in Georgia has changed. A digit "5" was added to the two-digit cellular codes.

Khatiya Kurashvili, the press secretary of the National Communications Commission of Georgia, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, now instead of No. 77 XX-XX-XX l the No. 577 XX-XX-XX should be dialled.

Besides, the national prefix "8" will be not needed while calling from mobile to mobile phones. However, the cellular code "8" will still be valid while calling from fixed-line to mobile phones.

Change in numbering in Georgia is connected with the transition to the European system of dialling. "The EU countries and the USA have no prefix "8". And now it became possible in Georgia to call from mobile to mobile phones by simple dialling the subscriber's phone number" explained Ms Kurashvili.

Such big cities of the country as Tbilisi, Kutaisi and Batumi face a lack of available phone numbers. Upon innovation the number of subscribers of fixed phone lines will increase.
