Maryam Sharipova's brother got political refugee status in Italy

The Court of Trieste declared the decision of the Commission's on Political Asylum, which had rejected asylum for Anvar Sharipov, to be illegal due to insufficient and contradictory motivation, and provided a native of Dagestan with a political refugee status. Giorgio Kamai, the editor of the Media Centre Osservatorio Balcani e Caucaso, who watched over the detainee's fate from Italy, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

On January 6 Sharipov was detained in Italy at the train "Venice – Paris" not far from Venice. He explained that he might face torture in Russia. Anvar is the brother of Maryam Sharipova, who, according to the investigators, exploded herself in the Moscow subway in March 2009.

On January 27, in Gorizia the Commission's on Political Asylum considered Sharipov's application for political asylum, and Anvar's application was declined. On February 14, the lawyer Gianfranco Carbone filed a complaint against the rejection to grant a political asylum.

On April 1, 2011, Anvar Sharipov entered to the Court of Trieste with an application for political asylum, referring to apprehension that upon his return home, Sharipov would be subjected to persecution from the Russian authorities.
