In Argun, 62 families move into new houses

On June 15, the city of Argun, the third-largest city of Chechnya saw an opening of two new settlements for the residents of the city downtown, whose houses were demolished this winter in the course of the broad-scale reconstruction of the city. The keys to their new houses were solemnly handed over to 62 families.

"These new comfortable houses for the residents of demolished ones were built very quickly – within two months. They are same type one-story house of seven rooms each, with the whole necessary infrastructure. They are provided with gas, water and electricity supplies, and a paved asphalt road. In May, the first 12 houses were commissioned here; now 62 families more received their new houses," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told at the administration of Argun.

"They've really built houses for us; they are nice – large rooms, a brick fence and an iron gate; there are water, electricity and gas supplies," said a resident of Argun, who asked not to name him.

Another woman-resettler from Argun was unhappy with the need to move to the outskirts. "Our houses were in the city centre; now we were moved to the outskirts. We didn't ask anyone to evict us and demolish our houses. I'd better live in the old location," she said.

The large-scale reconstruction of the city of Argun was launched is the end of 2010; about a hundred private households were demolished. Initially their residents were accommodated in the hostels, from where forced resettlers had been evicted before that. The actions of the authorities' townspeople's discontent; however, no applications were filed by them with the law enforcement and judicial authorities.
