Colonel Bogatyryov's murder in KBR was followed by mass detention of locals

After the murder in the city of Baksan of Khasan Bogatyryov, Deputy Head of the Russian Centre for Combating Extremism at the local Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR), mass detentions of local residents took place there. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed about it by lawyers Magomed Abubakarov and Rustam Matsev.

According to their story, all the detainees were later released. The Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" adds that the detainees were those residents of Baksan, who are registered by the police as a "congregation".

Khasan Bogatyryov, Deputy Head of the Centre for Combating Extremism, was killed on 12 June in Baksan in a special operation aimed to detain members of the armed underground. In a private house at No. 53 Kalmykov Street, Colonel Bogatyryov and the senior lieutenant who accompanied him confronted armed men who opened fire on them. In a shootout Bogatyryov was killed and his accompanying officer was wounded.

The HRC "Memorial" gives the names of the nine detainees who were later released: Takhir Dyshekov, Islam Beshkurov, Arsen Mollaev, Murat Gedgafov, Arthur Gedgafov, Zaur Khashpakov, Safarbi Kashezhev, Arthur Abazov and Valery Mishkhozhev.

One of the detainees, Valery Mishkhozhev, said that while at the Baksan ROVD (District Interior Division) he was beaten by some unknown agent.
