Newspaper "Krestyanin" ("Peasant") in Rostov region estimated its damage from closure of the print shop to one million rubles

Material damage from suspension of the work of the print shop of "Krestyanin" newspaper makes about one million rubles, Irina Samokhina, Director General of "Krestyanin" publishing house told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"The regional Public prosecutor's office is currently investigating whether the decision of closure of the enterprise was lawful. Although there are no results yet we expect the prosecutors to make their conclusions and give an answer in a thirty-days term stipulated by the law. Besides, we are going to submit a complaint concerning the firemen's actions based on the result of whose inspection the court stopped the work of the enterprise", Samokhina said.

"The profit we have not received for over two weeks of inaction paying off the salary to the staff of the print shop, i.e. 96 persons, makes 600 thousand rubles, besides, our clients withdrew their orders from us, went to other print shops and will possibly no longer continue cooperation with us. According to our calculation, all together it comes to one million rubles", Head of the publishing house reported.

Regional Public prosecutor's office reported that the investigation of the officials' actions concerning the print shop was still in process and the results would not be announced until its end.

"We are very glad that "Krestyanin" got a permission to continue work but first of all, we are sure that nothing of this kind should have even happened! We are also sure that international support has played a great role and we will go on demanding that the authorities should respect freedom of speech and stop their attempts to put criticism to silence which have already become habitual, the statement of World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) runs.
