A charge of Politkovakaya's murder brought against Rustam Makhmudov

Chief Directorate of the Committee of Inquiry brought a charge against Rustam Makhmudov of the murder of Anna Politkovskaya, observer of "Novaya Gazeta", and a number of other crimes, representative of the office Vladimir Markin reported today.

It should be reminded that Rustam Makhmudov was detained in his parents' house in Chechnya and put up no resistance during arrest. After that he was transported to Moscow.

"According to the investigation's version, it is Makhmudov who was Politkovskaya's murderer. At the moment the investigation has collected sufficient proofs of his guilt of the crime", Markin declared. 

According to him, in mid' 90's Rustam Makhmudov committed a number of crimes in the territory of Moscow, among them kidnapping and extortion of someone's property under the treat of violence to this person and his relatives who owned this property. 

Investigative and operative search actions aimed at collection and securing proofs on the case of Anna Politkovskaya's murder, establishment and detention of accomplices and paymasters of this crime are currently in process. "Investigation of the criminal case is going on", RIA "Novosti" quotes Markin. 

The charge against Makhmudov was brought on four clauses of the Criminal code of the Russian Federation.
