Chechnya: teenager warned for false report about terror act

On May 17 in Chechnya, a sentence was passed to the 15-year-old boy, who last summer reported false data to the "MegaFon" mobile operator about an impending major terror act.

"The guilt of the minor of the commission of the crime was fully proved during the court hearings. The accused himself also confessed of his offence and sincerely repented," said a local law enforcer.

He added that the court "took into account the boy's age and other extenuating circumstances."

"He was warned - as an educational measure - and handed over under his parents' supervision," said the source.

According to his story, this incident is perhaps the only recorded case in recent years in Chechnya of a false report about a prepared terror act. "Our republic is practically free of this problem (false messages about upcoming explosions or terror acts). The case with this teenager was the only in recent years," the power agent has stressed.

Meanwhile yesterday, on May 17 in Chechnya, the Federal Penitentiary Service (known as "FSIN") and the Committee on Youth Affairs of the Government of the Chechen Republic held a joint action, which assumed taking a group of teenagers, registered at the Commission on Minors, for a tour to the penal colony Chernokozovo located in the Naur District of Chechnya.

This action, as the above Youth Committee has assured, had exclusively "educational nature", and assumed to give a chance to "difficult" teenagers to get convinced that serving a punishment for the committed crime "is far from being romantic and easy time spending."
