In Yerevan, oppositionists protest against Mayoralty's city planning policy

Deputies of the oppositional "Heritage" Party are holding an action of civil protest in Yerevan with participation of ecologists and residents of adjacent areas. The aim of the action is to stop illegal, according to its participants, construction works in the capital and to restore green plantations.

In the place of the action, activists and local residents are covering with soil the roots of trees, which had been dug out for future construction works, writes the edition "Aysor.am".

"People pour water over the roots of endangered trees, trying to bring, as far as possible, the green territory into the order," said Stepan Safaryan, head of the parliamentary faction of the "Heritage".

He said that the Ministers of Urban Development and of the Environment, who had earlier expressed their desire to take part in planting trees, have failed to appear, the "News.am" writes.

There are no reports about Yerevan authorities' reaction to the protest.
