Georgia: opposition to broadcast live on Public TV

The Georgian Public Television has provided live broadcast to the oppositionists, who gathered today in Tbilisi with a demand of resignation of President Mikhail Saakashvili.

About an hour ago, the participants of the action moved an ultimatum to the bosses of the Public Television to provide live broadcast to them. It was switched on, when Nino Burdjanadze, one of the leaders of the People's Forum and the former speaker of the parliament, stated, when speaking to the rally, that "she was not afraid of snipers" and "ready to sacrifice her life."

"Today we have a turning-point and a chance to eliminate the anti-people regime. We urge all citizens to join our action," Nino Burdjanadze said live on air, the "Interfax" reports.

Well before the protest, David Bakradze, Chairman of the Georgian Parliament, stated that he saw no problem in holding a rally in downtown Tbilisi. "Actions of this sort have always been held in Georgia; they'll be held in the future; and within the bounds of the law everyone has the right to hold actions," the "News-Georgia" quotes Mr Bakradze as saying.

See earlier report: "About 10,000 people take part in opposition protests in Tbilisi".
