71 people killed in April in armed confrontations in Northern Caucasus

No less than 116 persons became victims of armed confrontations in Northern Caucasus in April. 71 people out of them were killed and 45 got wounded. These are the totals of calculation by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources. 

Among those killed there are 51 suspects of participation in armed underground, 15 law enforcement officers and five peaceful residents. No less than 37 members of power ministries, four civilians, three people declared gunmen and one official were wounded.

12 explosions and acts of terror, no less than 28 armed confrontations, 9 assaults at peaceful residents and 5 at members of power ministries, two attempts at officials and one at a clergyman were registered in Northern Caucasus in April. According to law enforcement bodies, they successfully prevented 11 explosions. Legal regime of counter-terrorist operation (CTO) was enacted six times, all the six of them in Dagestan. 

Nine acts of terror were committed in Dagestan during the month, two in Ingushetia and one in Chechnya. One person perished in Kizlyar (Dagestan) as a result, 13 got wounded. The killed man was a supposed suicide bomber. Among those wounded there were 12 members of power ministries and one peaceful resident. 

14 armed conflicts were registered in April in Dagestan, seven in Chechnya, five in Kabardino-Balkaria, one battle took place in Ingushetia and one in Stavropol region. 64 persons were killed in them: 50 supposed gunmen and 14 law enforcement officers. In particular, during a special operation in the settlement of Progress, Stavropol region, 10 supposed gunmen at once were killed, among them leaders of Kabardino-Balkar armed underground. 

37 members of power ministries and servicemen and three supposed gunmen were killed during the battles in Northern Caucasus in April. 

Three attempts at law enforcement officers were committed in April in Dagestan and one in Kabardino-Balkaria. One officer and one peaceful resident were killed and another officer got wounded. 

There were seven assaults at civilians in Dagestan and two in Kabardino-Balkaria: three peaceful residents perished and three were wounded.

In particular, unidentified people shot down Nuri Ramazanov, ex-imam of the mosque in the settlement of Averianovka, Kizlyar district, in the courtyard of his house. Some strangers in the same district stopped the car of Saidimir Makagajiev who practiced non-traditional healing and shot him down.

Two attempts at representatives of the authorities were committed. One of the officials, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Dagestan Bilal Omarov, was wounded. 

Magomed Saipulaev, imam of a mosque, was killed in his house in the settlement of Yasnaya Polyana, Kizlyar district of Dagestan. According to National Anti-Terrorist Committee, the imam had condemned the activities of paramilitary groups and formerly received threats in connection with this.

The greatest number of people killed in Northern Caucasus in April was registered in Dagestan (41), 12 in Chechnya, 10 in Stavropol region, 6 in Kabardino-Balkaria and 2 in Ingushetia. Out of those wounded 31 persons were injured in Dagestan, ten in Chechnya, three in Ingushetia and one in KBR. 

No less than 59 people were detained for suspicion of membership in PMG or complicity in their activities from April, 1, till April, 30, 16 of them in Dagestan, 18 in Chechnya, 6 in Moscow, 2 in Ingushetia, 4 in Karachay-Cherkessia and one in Stavropol region. Seven more persons in Chechnya, according to law enforcement bodies, came as self-reported criminals.
