In Chechnya, court adjudges 30,000 roubles in favour of woman who lost daughter in shelling

The Lenin District Court of Grozny has partially satisfied the claim lodged by Ruman Kosumova, a resident of the village of Kharachoi, Vedeno District of Chechnya, on compensation for her moral sufferings caused to her by actions of prosecutors from the Vedeno District and Shali Inter-District Investigatory Division of the Investigatory Department for Chechnya of the Investigatory Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF).

Let us remind you that on March 10, 2009, experts of the Interregional Committee Against Torture sent a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) in Strasbourg dealing with the violation of the right to life of Raissa Kosumova, a native of Chechnya, who was lost in 2003 as a result of mortar fire. The complaint was filed on behalf of her mother.

The above Grozny Court has ruled to collect 30,000 roubles in favour of Ruman Kosumova from the Treasury of the Russian Federation. The ruling was passed in absentia, since no officials of the above Investigatory Department appeared in the courtroom, although they were duly notified, said the press service of the Interregional Committee Against Torture.

Let us remind you that Raissa Kosumova was on her way back home to Kharachoi in her GAZ-66 car from Vedeno, when she got under the mortar attack opened by Russian army servicemen from the side of Dyshne-Vedeno. The young woman died in place from received wounds.

In the course of the inquiry, held by the prosecutor's office of the Vedeno District and the Shali Inter-District Investigatory Division, illegal statements had been repeatedly passed to suspend the preliminary investigation, which subsequently were challenged by the victim's advocates and cancelled.
