28 people were killed in armed confrontations in Northern Caucasus during a week

During the week from April, 25, till May, 1, no less than 28 people were killed and minimum 18 wounded in armed confrontations in Northern Caucasus. These are the totals of calculation by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and other open sources. 

There are 23 suspects of involvement in armed underground and 5 members of power ministries among those killed. All the wounded persons are employees of law enforcement bodies. 12 people were killed in Dagestan, 10 in the territory of Stavropol region, three in Chechnya and three in Kabardino-Balkaria. 11 persons were wounded in Dagestan, six in Chechnya and one in Kabardino-Balkaria.  

Six explosions and acts of terror, ten armed conflicts, two attempts at law enforcement officers, one at an official and one at a civil object took place during the week. According to law enforcement bodies, four acts of terror were prevented. The regime of Counter-terrorist operation (CTO) was established four times. 

Four explosions happened in Dagestan, one in Chechnya and one in Volgograd. Nine policemen were wounded as a result: six in the Republic of Dagestan and three in Chechen Republic.

In particular, unidentified people activated an explosive device near a bar in the settlement of Sultanyangiyurt, Dagestan, at the moment when an operational investigative group arrived there, five policemen were contused. A policeman got wounded in Kazbek district of the republic as a result of blasting on a mine in the forest near the settlement of Leninaul. Two other explosions in Dagestan, one in Tsumada district and the other near a trading house in Makhachkala, went without victims. Three members of power ministries who blasted on a mine got wounded in the mountainous forest near the settlement of Eshelkhatoy, Chechnya. 

A bomb was activated on April, 26, near the gate of Volgograd municipal Department of State Traffic Safety Inspectorate. Another powerful bomb was found near a gym of the Academy of the Ministry of Interior Affairs, it exploded during mine clearing. Two more explosions were prevented in Dagestan and one in Kabardino-Balkaria.

In particular, a home-made explosive device (HED) of 22 kg volume trotyl equivalent was found in the 150th kilometer of Makhachkala - Gunib highway, Dagestan. Another HED in form of a can was found near a grocery in the Dagestani settlement of Khanad. A bomb was defused in the capital of Kabardino-Balkaria five minutes before an explosion. 

Six battles took place during the week April, 25 - May, 1, in Dagestan, one in Chechnya, two in KBR and one in Stavropol region. 27 people perished in them: 23 suspects of involvement in paramilitary groups (PMG) and four law enforcement officers. Eight Russian citizens got wounded in armed conflicts, all of them were employees of power ministries. 

All the armed confrontations in Dagestan occurred during special operations against gunmen in CTO zones: in the settlement of Shaumyan, Kizlyar district, the settlement of Reductorny in the suburbs of Makhachkala and three incidents, on April, 25, 27 and 28, in the settlement of Kvanada, Tsumdi district. As a result of these confrontations eight supposed participants of the underground and three policemen perished, five more members of power ministries got wounded and one suspect of having contacts with the underground surrendered to law enforcement officers. 

The police assures that two supposed gunmen were killed in the capital of KBR Nalchik who opened fire at the policemen during an attempt of document inspection. According to law enforcement bodies, the killed men turned out to be "leaders of radical Islamites". The investigation reports that in the settlement of Chernaya Rechka, Urvan district of KBR, a suspect of involvement in PMG blasted on a grenade in his car during an attempt of his detention. 

Two encircled participants of armed underground in Grozny also exploded themselves when they had no arms and ammunition left, before that they had killed one officer of the Ministry of Interior Affairs and wounded three. 10 supposed gunmen from Kabardino-Balkaria were killed during a special operation in the settlement of Progress, Stavropol region, leaders of armed opposition of the republic among them. 

According to the information available, two assaults at law enforcement officers did not result in armed confrontations. One of them was committed in Dagestan, the other one in Kabardino-Balkaria. Nasrolla Magomedov, Chief of the Department of Interior Affairs in Sergokala district, was shot down in Dagestan and a district police officer was wounded in the capital of Kabardino-Balkaria. 

Besides, an attempt at an official was committed in Dagestan. Unidentified people exploded a car of the Chairman of the Calculating Committee of Karabudakhkent. The explosion of 50 gram trotyl volume happened under the bottom of the car. There are no victims. 

No less than 15 persons were detained for suspicion of participation in PMG or complicity in their activities during the week, eight of them in Chechnya, five in Dagestan and two in Kabardino-Balkaria. 

Six suspects of complicity in the gunmen's activities were detained in Chechnya: in Grozny and the settlements of Gekhi, Urus-Martan district, and Aslambek-Sheripovo, Shatoy district. Two more persons who had collaborated with the underground, in Grozny and Grozny district, surrendered to the authorities. According to the police, they came as self-reported criminals. In Dagestan the personnel of the Ministry of Interior Affairs and Federal Security Service detained two supposed accomplices of members of PMG at their homes and two possible gunmen in the capital of the district. Two young men suspected of rendering aid to PMG were detained in Nalchik.
