Caravan in memory of victims of terror and war moves across Kabardino-Balkaria

On May 5, the territory of Kabardino-Balkaria was crossed by a memory caravan of victims of terror and war, which started in Vladikavkaz. The tour over the cities of Southern Russia on horses and camels was organized by the NGO "Right to Peace".

The caravan is moving over the cities of Southern Russian, making stops in towns for holding various peacekeeping actions and meetings with veterans of the war and schoolchildren.

On May 5 the caravan arrived in the city of Prokhladny; the guests were greeted by local citizens - veterans of World War II, schoolchildren and students, and Vyacheslav Archangelskiy, deputy head of the local administration.

Irina Umnova, president of the centre "Right to Peace" and division head for constitutional-legal studies of the Russian Academy of Justice, presented the veterans and the participants of the meeting with the book "Russia and USSR in Wars of the 20th Century".

Vladimir Milovanov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Veterans, has treated the expedition as a good action, since "it acquaints children and its participants to the country's history and respect for those who created the history."

The Prokhladny City Palace of Culture has deployed a travelling exposition in memory of victims of terror and war, and a book fair, the proceeds from which will go to erection of the chapels "Blessed Peacemakers" in Vladikavkaz and Volgograd.

An exhibition "We Love Peace" was organized of the works of the pupils of the children's arts school other educational institutions. The authors of the twenty best drawings get a chance to join the caravan. They also received memory books and diplomas from Nikolai Konyukhov - the son of the famous Russian traveller Fyodor Konyukhov.

Prior to continue the journey, which now runs to Budyonnovsk, the members of the expedition visited the St Nicholas Church in Prokhladny.

The action, launched in Vladikavkaz, passed via Beslan; the participants will also visit Pyatigorsk and Krasnodar. By June 22 the caravan will arrive in the hero-city of Volgograd. The total length of the route is 1890 km.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported earlier about other events held in Kabardino-Balkaria by the Victory Day. In September 2010 Kabardino-Balkaria opened a monument to the soldiers-defenders of Mount Elbrus.

Kabardino-Balkaria sent 60,000 soldiers to the front of the war. At present the republic has 1502 war invalids and veterans and 2556 widows of the participants of the Great Patriotic War. According to the information received at the Board of Veterans of the city of Nalchik, presently 535 war veterans live in the capital of Kabardino-Balkaria: 39 Kabardins, 17 Balkars, and 479 Russians and other nationals.
