"European Union of Deportees and Displaced Persons" to acquaint European community with Karabakh problem

The organization named "European Union of Deportees and Displaced Persons" (EUDDP) plans to hold actions aimed to acquaint the European community with the Karabakh problem. As reported by Maximiliano Lakota, secretary general of the EUDDP, the first such event will be held this autumn in Italy.

Mr Lakota and Enrico Neami, chief administrator of the EUDDP, were on a familiarization visit to Nagorno-Karabakh on April 25, where they met the authorities.

"It's important that I am officially visiting Karabakh as part of my visit to Armenia, because there are problems here associated with refugees and deported persons," said Maximiliano Lakota.

In his opinion, the solution of the refugee issue is hampered by unresolved regional conflicts. "Human rights and the principle of self-determination recognize neither time nor special boundaries," said the secretary general.

Also, Ms Lakota said at the meeting with the parliament Karabakh that the EUDDP plans to sign a memorandum with the "Noravank" Scientific and Educational Centre, which will start cooperating with the government of Armenia.

"We plan to hold actions to acquaint the European public with the fact of the Armenian Genocide. The Genocide must be recognized as part of the World history. In the further joint work we plan to also cover the Karabakh problem. We plan to conduct high-level events to introduce the European community to the Karabakh problem. The first such event will be held this autumn in Italy," said Maximiliano Lakota.

President of Nagorno-Karabakh Bako Saakyan told the visitors from Europe that there are all the facilities and potentials for scaling up cooperation with their organization. The Chief Information Office reports that "the President highly assessed the efforts of the Union directed at recognition and condemnation of genocides and defence of nations' rights, affected by conflict, seeing one of the most important areas of human rights in it."

Mr Saakyan has also noted that humanitarian issues should not be politicized; he welcomed the readiness of European visitors to provide assistance and help in presenting the problems of the refugees living in Nagorno-Karabakh in various European instances.
