The President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan visited the 25th Geneva International Book and Press Fair

On visiting the 25th International Book and Press Fair going on in Geneva, President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan said that it was a very important event before the 500th anniversary of book printing in Armenia and declaring Yerevan the World Book Capital in 2012.

The President familiarized himself with books published by publishers of Armenia and Armenian diaspora, with the exhibition "Twelve Capitals of Armenia" and also visited the exhibition of works by Armenian painter Narek Avetisyan "Simulakrum".

Serzh Sargsyan expressed his pleasure with the fact that at this jubilee exhibition Armenia was presented as a guest of honour and emphasized the significant role which creation of script had played in Armenian history in V century. 

Besides, Serzh Sargsyan lay a wreath at the foot of "Khachkar" memorial of the victims of genocide of the Armenians in Geneva and also had a meeting with representatives of Armenian diaspora in Switzerland, PanARMENIAN.Net reports. 

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" reported that Serzh Sargsyan was on an official visit in Switzerland on the invitation of Micheline Calmy-Rey, President of the Swiss Confederation. 

Meetings of the Armenian President with the senior management of Switzerland are planned for May, 3, Press service of Armenian President reports.

It should be mentioned that the embassy of Azerbaijan in Switzerland and Liechtenstein lodged a protest note with Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland in connection with exhibiting in Armenian stands of International Book and Press Fair in Geneva materials misrepresenting territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. Murad Najafbeili, Ambassador of Azerbaijan, demanded removal of these materials from the stand of the Fair, IA "Trend" reports.
