In the course of the week on April 18-24 armed conflict in Northern Caucasus claimed 19 lives

In the course of the week from April 18 to April 24 at least 19 persons were killed and at least 7 more wounded in the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. These are the results of calculations made by the "Caucasian Knot" on the basis of its own materials and information from other open sources.

The death roll includes 12 suspects of involvement in the armed opposition, 4 civilians and three power agents. All the wounded ones are law enforcers. 13 persons were lost in Dagestan, five in Chechnya and one in Ingushetia. Six people were wounded in Chechnya and one in Dagestan.

The week saw two explosions and terror acts, seven armed clashes, three attacks on civilians and two on power agents. Two possible terror acts were prevented. Twice - in the village of Kyakhulay near the capital of Dagestan and in Makhachkala - the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime was introduced.

One explosion occurred in Dagestan and one in Chechnya. Thus, near the village of Samashki in Chechnya, three policemen received burns and minor injuries at explosion of an improvised explosive device (IED), which was triggered by unidentified persons. In Dagestan, the bomb went off in front of an electric locomotive in the railway section Kizilyurt-Temirgoe; nobody was hurt. In the course of examination of the scene, four more bombs were neutralized. In Kabardino-Balkaria, near the town of Baksan, a radio-controlled IED was detected and de-mined.

On April 18-24 four armed clashes burst out in Dagestan, and three in Chechnya - 14 persons were lost in them: 12 suspects of involvement in illegal armed formations (IAFs) and two power agents. Four Russians - all of them law enforcers - were wounded in the armed clashes.

Three armed clashes in Dagestan, held in the Levashin District, in the village of Kyakhulay located in the outskirts of Makhachkala, and in the capital itself, ended successfully for law enforcers - their agents were not injured, while seven suspected militants, including, as reported by power agents, the head of the Dagestani underground, were killed. The fourth collision - in Khasavyurt - on the contrary, ended in two killed policemen and one more wounded.

In Chechnya, a special operation, carried out by the Ministry of Internal Affairs with the help of Interior Troops resulted in liquidation, as reported by power agents, of the field commander of Arab origin named "Mokhannad". Allegedly, he was a representative of al-Qaeda in Northern Caucasus and organizer of major recent terror acts. In the operation in the Shatoi District law enforcers killed three suspected militants, while a policeman was wounded. In the Achkhoi-Martan District, unidentified persons shelled a police unit of two Sakhalin OMON (riot police) fighters and wounded them.

Two attacks on power agents, which, according to available information, did not grow into armed clashes, were committed in Dagestan. Thus, unidentified persons shelled the district policeman in the village of Shaumyan and killed his relative. In Khasavyurt at shelling of the travel police post, a policeman was fatally wounded.

Besides, Dagestan saw two attacks on civilians, and Kabardino-Balkaria - one on a civilian object. In particular, unidentified persons shot dead Nuri Ramazanov, former Imam of the mosque in the village of Averyanovka, Kizlyar District, in the yard of his house. In the same district, unidentified assailants stopped the car of Saidimir Makagadjiev, who was engaged in non-traditional methods of treatment, and shot him dead. In the village of Khasanya of the capital of Kabardino-Balkaria, a grocery store was burned down; the building was completely destroyed; there were no casualties.

During the week, at least 14 persons were detained as suspects of involvement in IAFs or helping them. Of them, seven persons were detained in Dagestan, five in Chechnya, and one person in the Stavropol Territory and near Moscow each.

Thus, in the village of Kidero, Tsuntin District of Dagestan, detentions of locals started during the previous week continued. On April 19, 22 and 23, six men were detained and taken away to some unknown place. Only on April 25, as reported by the Human Rights Centre "Memorial", it became known that three of them were kept at the temporary detention facility (known as "IVS") in Makhachkala. After summoning to the ROVD (District Interior Division) of Karabudakhkent, Magomed-Ali Ilyasov, a resident of the village of Gubden, disappeared.

In Chechnya, two persons, as asserted by the police, surrendered: a man, who was on the federal wanted list, came to the Shatoi ROVD and confessed that he was an IAF member; and in Grozny a woman admitted that two years ago she helped militants by giving them food and medicines. In the village of Yandi, Achkhoi-Martan District, an alleged militant was caught; while an alleged militants' helper was detained in the Urus-Martan District. In Grozny, a 50-year-old citizen, who was in federal search, was detained. Last October a criminal case was initiated against him under the article of "insulting a state official".

On April 19, in the Moscow Region, Magomed Dzhagapirov, who is suspected of involvement in the armed opposition, operating in Karachay-Cherkessia. Also, in the village of Lysogorskaya, Stavropol Region, a local resident, a native of Chechnya, was detained on suspicion of recruiting young people in several districts of the region for the North-Caucasian underground.
