Administration of Yeisk District refutes ecologists' data about pollution of the Azov Sea

Experts who visited the Yeisk Estuary of the Azov Sea in the Krasnodar Territory saw algae in water, not pollution. This was reported by Sergey Kashlev, head of the civil defence and emergency division of the administration of the Yeisk District.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that after an accident of the sewer manifold wastewater got into the Yeisk Estuary in the Krasnodar Territory. "As a result of the accident the surface of the Yeisk Estuary, which is a bay of the Azov Sea is covered with faecal matter," wrote the "Ecological Watch for Northern Caucasus".

According to Mr Kashlev, after receiving at about 2:00 p.m. Moscow time on April 25 of the message from a local resident about pollution of the estuary, the venue was visited by the chief engineer of the local "Vodokanal" (water supply and sewage service), the head of the civil defence and emergency division of the Yeisk administration, a specialist of "Rospotrebnadzor" (Russian Federal Agency for Consumer Supervision) and the acting head of the housing and municipal service of Yeisk, the "Interfax" reports.

"The services visited the place, made a check and concluded that there was no accident. The specialists of the district civil defence and emergency division, 'Rospotrebnadzor', district administration and 'Vodokanal' went to the place of the alleged pollution of the estuary and checked what was found in the water - no smell, something like grass remnants," the "RIA Novosti" quotes Mr Kashlev as saying.
