Residents of Kazakhstan convicted for viewing video appeals of Said Buryatskiy and Dokku Umarov

The City Court of Temirtau, Karaganda Region of Kazakhstan, has sentenced four men to various terms of imprisonment for propaganda of terrorism and inciting religious hatred, because they had discussed the lectures and watched video appeals of Said Buryatskiy, militants' ideologist, who was later liquidated in Ingushetia, and Dokku Umarov, leader of the so-called "Imarat Kavkaz".

Two of those arrested had already served their terms in colony. The court has found an entrepreneur from Karaganda (administrative centre of the region), an unemployed from Temirtau and two convicts guilty under Articles 233 (terrorism) and 164 (incitement of social, national, tribal, racial or religious hatred) of the Criminal Code. This was reported by the Regional Department of the National Security Committee (DNSC) of Kazakhstan.

According to the verdict, the Karaganda entrepreneur was sentenced to four years of imprisonment, the resident of Temirtau - to three years; and the two persons already convicted were added one year each to their remaining colony terms.

According to materials of the criminal case, the inmates studied - right in the colony - the video lectures and listened to audio records of the leaders of the underground formations of Northern Caucasian Dokku Umarov and Said Buryatskiy.

It was established in the course of the investigation that these lectures had been brought to the colony by the above entrepreneur and the unemployed, who watched together with other inmates and discussed the lectures of terrorists. "Examination has revealed that speeches of the two terrorists contained appeals aimed at kindling social, racial or religious enmity and hatred," the "Interfax" quotes its source from the DNSC.
