Lithuania: Egle Kusaite, accused of terrorism, arrested in the courtroom

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by the Lithuanian journalist Thomas Chivas, who is monitoring the trial, that at the Regional Court of Vilnius, Egle Kusaite, a citizen of Lithuania, accused of preparing a terror act in Russia, was arrested.

"The court changed her freedom restriction measure from recognizance not to leave into custody under demand of the prosecutor's office, which initiates another criminal case against Kusaite - on her alleged threats by means of SMS-messages addressed to Yustas Lauchyus, Prosecutor of the General Prosecutor's Office of Lithuania, who had initiated the case against Kusaite, but now figures in the case as a witness," said Mr Chivas, who was present at the court session.

The Prosecutor's Office demanded to place Egle Kusaite in custody, alleging that by threatening Lauchyus she interfered with the investigation. To prove the pressure on the inquiry, the prosecutors also attached 300 pages of printouts of telephone conversations of Egle Kusaite, her mother and aunt, and Russian journalists and human rights defenders to the case files.

"The court has satisfied the petition of the Prosecutor's Office; and Egle Kusaite was arrested right in the courtroom. She is convoyed by 10 Lithuanian policemen. Her defence intends to appeal against the ruling," Thomas Chivas told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
