In Armenia, CER commission decides to release oppositionist

The independent commission on conditional early relief (CER) has decided to satisfy the petition lodged by the advocate of the opposition activist Aram Baregamyan. This was reported by the press service of the Armenian National Congress (ANC).

Aram Baregamyan, head of the electoral office of Levon Ter-Petrosyan in the city of Razdan, was arrested in March 2008 and sentenced to six years of imprisonment under the articles of "violence against a state official" and "intentional infliction of harm to one's health". Earlier, it was reported that on April 1 Baregamyan's advocate addressed the CER commission with a petition about his client's early release.

The information about Baregamyan's imminent release was confirmed to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Arsen Babayan, press secretary of the Criminal-Penitentiary Department of the Ministry of Justice. According to his story, in the near future, the Department will lodge a petition to the court, asking to decide on this issue.
