Three people killed in armed confrontations in Northern Caucasus during the week from April, 4, to April, 10

During the week from April, 4, to April, 10, no less than three people were killed and minimum seven wounded in the smouldering armed confrontation in Northern Caucasus. These are the totals of the calculation by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources. 

There are two suspects of involvement in armed underground and one religious figure among those killed. No less than four members of power ministries, one official and one peaceful resident got wounded. 

Two persons perished in Dagestan and one in Chechnya. Four people got wounded in Dagestan, one in Chechnya and one in Ingushetia. 

During the above mentioned seven days five explosions and acts of terror, one armed conflict, one attempt at an official, one at a religious figure and one assault at the police personnel took place. Five probable acts of terror were prevented. 

Four explosions happened in Dagestan and one in Ingushetia. One supposed gunman perished during the explosion, three policeman and one peaceful resident was wounded. In particular, at night of April, 10, there was an explosion in Kizlyar, Dagestan. A dead man with a belt of a suicide bomber was found on the scene of the accident. Several officers of law enforcement agencies were blown up on a booby trap, three of them were taken to hospital. A bomb was activated on a road of Tsumadi district the moment a car with a school employee was passing by, there were no victims. The door of a food store was damaged by an explosion in the village of Karabudakhkent.  

An attempt at Sultan-Girey Khashagulgov, ex-Deputy Minister of Construction, brother of Issa Khashagulgov accused of organization of the act of terror in the market of Vladikavkaz, was committed in Ingushetia. As a result of an explosion near his house Sultan-Girey was gravely wounded and is currently undergoing treatment in Moscow. 

Possible acts of terror were prevented in the capitals of Russia, Kabardino-Balkaria and Dagestan. Two cars with explosives were detained in different districts of Moscow. A bomb in one of them was defused by a robot-sapper, a trotyl block was impounded from the other one. Bomb technicians in Nalchik defused two home-made bombs found in different districts of the town. During an inspection on operative information an explosive device was found near a grave in the cemetery of the settlement of Separatorny of Makhachkala. 

A battle took place in Chechnya. During a special operation of neutralization of gunmen a suspect of involvement in armed underground was killed and a policeman wounded in Vedeno district. 

In addition, at night of April, 6 unidentified people fired upon the building of Kizlyar district Department of Interior Affairs in Dagestan from self-firers and a grenade launcher. There were no victims or injured persons. 

An attempt at Bilal Omarov, Minister of Agriculture of Dagestan, was committed. He was shot at from a pistol. The wounded official was taken to hospital.

Magomed Saipulaev, imam of the local mosque, was killed from self-firers by a shot into a window of his house in the settlement of Yasnaya Polyana, Kizlyar district of Dagestan. According to National Antiterrorist Committee, Saipulaev had condemned the activities of paramilitary groups (PMG) and received threats in connection with this. 

No less than 14 people were detained during the week for suspicion of involvement in PMG or complicity in their activities, six of them in Kabardino-Balkaria, five in Moscow, two in Chechnya and one in Dagestan.

Drivers and passengers of cars transporting explosives and arms were detained in Moscow, Dagestan, Chegem district, the town of Chegem and the capital of Kabardino-Balkaria Nalchik. In Chegem and the settlement of Zaragizh, KBR, three local residents suspected of involvement in underground groups were detained, too. In Vedeno district of Chechnya members of power ministries detained a woman accused of supplying participants of armed underground with food and a young man in Shelkovskoy district who had a federal wanted notice from the police of Ingushetia.  

Besides, resident of Dagestan Larisa Abdulaeva was detained in "Shukinskaya" station of the Moscow metro for the reason that the girl's rigorous Moslem clothes caused the passengers' suspicion. 

On April, 5, Operative Headquarters of Kabardino-Balkaria reminded the population that in part of the territories of Elbrus, Baksan, Chegem and Cherek districts and the town of Nalchik legal regime of counter-terrorist operation (CTO) stipulating special measures and temporary limitations the list of which had formerly been brought to the population's notice via mass media was still in force.

  • Court releases Malgobek law enforcers accused of extortion

    Three policemen from Ingushetia, accused of using violence against a detainee and extortion, have been released. The Supreme Court (SC) of Ingushetia has explained that the period specified by law for the preliminary investigation had expired and their further detention is illegal.
