Georgia: Batumi port reopened after radiation leak

The "Caucasian Knot" was reported at the administration of the Batumi port that the radioactive substance caesium-137 detected in the port has been already withdrawn and transported to a secure storage.

The work of the port was suspended this morning. The reason was in the readings of a detector that showed radioactive radiation from scrap metal. It took several hours to detect the source of radiation.

The emergency over, the Batumi port has already resumed its work.

Let us note here that according to the "Programme for Export and Border Safety Control" all the checkpoints in Georgia are equipped with radiation detectors.
