Armenian opposition leader intends to continue his hunger strike

Raffi Ovannisyan, leader of the oppositional "Heritage" Party, who went on hunger strike a week ago in Armenia, is going to continue his protest action, aimed at promoting the freedom principles as long as his health permits. He has stated it today at a press conference organized under the open sky in Freedom Square in Yerevan.

Let us remind you that Mr Ovannisyan announced his hunger strike during his speech at the open forum of his party on March 15.

"On March 15, I entered the Freedom Square and moved a number of specific political claims, namely: "Power belongs to the people", "No to Party's state", "People are masters of their country", "Decent future for young people", "No to injustice and migration", "Recognize independence of Nagorno-Karabakh" and others," said Ovannisyan.

He also reported that on March 21 he was visited by Karen Andreasyan, local Ombudsman, who made a detailed study of the conditions, in which the politician is living. "The Ombudsman concluded that a tent may be installed in Freedom Square; now, we wait for the decision of the authorities," said the oppositionist.
The leader of the "Heritage" Party also told journalists that he is daily visited by doctors, who believe that currently he has no problems with his heart or blood tension.
