Chechen authorities prohibited schoolchildren using mobiles at school

Pupils of comprehensive schools are not allowed to take mobiles to classes. The teachers consider this decision right while many schoolchildren and their parents stick to the opposite opinion.

According to a reporter of “Caucasian Knot”, the ban of using mobiles at schools was established in Kurchaloy district of the republic. The idea was first offered by Salman Zakriev, First Deputy Chairman of the republican Parliament, during his visit to one of the schools of the district. The Deputy asked the schoolchildren not to take their mobiles to school and use them only at home. The phones will be taken away from the breakers of this rule.

“A pupil must get knowledge at school and when the schoolchildren divert their attention away from classes all the time, play games on their mobiles or contact their friends they have no time left for studies”, a teacher of one of the schools on Grozny is convinced.

“But no one uses one’s mobile at the lesson, only during the breaks. Is there any difference whether we use our phones at school or at home? I think it is up to the parents to decide it, not the teachers”, Yusup M., a pupil of the eleventh class of a school in Grozny, said.

“I see no harm if a schoolchild has got a mobile. It lets me control my son. Any time I can call and find out where he is and what he is doing. They might have ordered the children to switch off their phones during the lessons”, a local resident Murad I. considers.
