NAC: militant liquidated in Kabardino-Balkaria was trained in Lebanon

As reported by the National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC), Aslan Emkuzhev, who was assassinated at night on March 16 in Nalchik, had held his subversive and terrorist training in Lebanon and took part in warfare in the ranks of the radical Palestinian organization Fatah al-Islam.

According to the Operative Headquarters of the Counterterrorist Operation (CTO), "on March 16, at about 0:10 a.m. in the course of special actions within the conducted CTO, law enforcers tried to check documents of an unidentified person in Nalchik, in a garage cooperative in Tolstoy Street; the person rendered armed resistance and was shot dead by response fire."

When inspecting the place of the incident, power agents found two grenades, a shotgun and 7 rounds to it, and a black sports bag with 10 glass bottles filled with ready to use incendiary mixture, and 2 5-litre plastic bottles of gasoline, and waterproof matches.

According to the NAC, in 2009, the liquidated Aslan Emkuzhev, after being trained in Lebanon and taking part in operations of Fatah al-Islam, returned to Kabardino-Balkaria and advocated this radical organization in the republic. He is suspected of involvement in a number of attempts and killings of local state officials, clergymen and law enforcement officials in Kabardino-Balkaria.

The position of Aslan Emkuzhev's relatives is still unknown.
