"MASHR": In Ingushetia in peacetime people die like at war
Despite the absence of warfare in Northern Caucasus, annually armed conflicts in the region take away lives of dozens of civilians. The year 2009 became the bloodiest for the Republic of Ingushetia - 304 casualties; in 2010, the death toll halved - 148 casualties. The figures are presented in the blog of the "Caucasian Knot" by Magomed Mutsolgov, head of the human rights organization named "MASHR".
Commenting in his blog the news of the "Caucasian Knot" "12 persons perish in armed conflict in Northern Caucasus within a week", the rights defender compares the events in the North-Caucasian region, and in Ingushetia, in particular, with the "reports from the frontline".
"The year 2009 was the bloodiest for the Republic of Ingushetia - 304 casualties. It should be noted that in 2010 this figure halved - 148 casualties," writes Magomed Mutsolgov. "These are huge figures both for the small Ingush nation and for the whole country in general."
"Still these casualties could have been avoided; they should have been avoided," he wrote.
The user Ahmed2010 expressed an opinion, in his comment on Magomed Mutsolgov's post, that the authorities even benefit from this state of things in the region. "FSB agents, federal and local authorities have no need to stop the millstones of this bloody machine," he writes. "As long as the blood of people is flowing, huge money flows into their pockets."
