Georgian "Resistance Movement" to hold pickets in defence of prisoners' rights

Starting from March 14, the public organization "Nationwide Resistance Movement" will hold protest actions in defence of prisoners' rights of detainees in prisons, and now encourages the public to rally around this problem.

According to activists of the movement, the total number of convicts, probationers and prisoners had grown up to 300,000 persons, making 10 percent of the population of Georgia.

"We demand from the Parliament of Georgia to immediately start public consideration of the bill "On Amnesty" prepared by the movement and adopt it within a month. Otherwise, the movement will launch large-scale actions against the regime," the "News-Georgia" quotes the activists of the movement.

Earlier, the "Resistance Movement" earlier urged the public and politicians to support the bill "On General Amnesty", which assumes liberation of all prisoners, except those sentenced for grave crimes, the "Georgia Today" reports.
