Parliamentary commission of Karachay-Cherkessia receives some 30 complaints against law enforcement bodies

About 30 complaints were sent to the commission for consideration of citizens' complaints about violations of their rights and freedoms by law enforcement agents, which was created under the People's Assembly of the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR). The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told about it by Kharshim Tekeev, chairman of the commission.

"One of the first to be considered by the commission was the complaint lodged by relatives of the former imam of Kislovodsk Nazbi Adzhiev about the physical and psychological pressure on him with the aim to force him into confession of involvement in the murder of Ismail Bostanov, Deputy Head of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the KChR and Stavropol Territory. After the conducted check the commission failed to confirm the fact of psychological and physical pressure on Imam Adzhiev," said Mr Tekeev.

According to the parliamentarian, a great number of complaints refer to the rights of prisoners.

"We received applications dealing with violations of prisoners' rights. People complain of physical pressure on detainees with the aim to force them to confess or give some other information. Relatives of some of the suspects or accused persons claim that detainees are taken out of insulation facilities and subject to physical pressure," said Kharshim Tekeev.

According to his story, above commission has addressed the Public Prosecutor's Office of the KChR on the occasion of the above complaints of detainees' relatives.
