The students of Rostov-on-Don celebrated Shrovetide in their own way

Social art project "Shrovetide Now" passed off on March, 5 and 6, in Rostov Children's and young people's Art Center, with informational support of Committee of Youth Policy of Rostov regional administration. The young people presented a modern review of the folk holiday.

Students and schoolchildren with the help of designers built a village from straw and cardboard in the Children's and young people's Art Center where free master classes, flash mobs, social actions and interactive attractions for a wider audience were going on two days. Inmates of Rostov-on-Don Rehabilitation Center for under age children took part in the project.

Valeria Fedotikova, one of the coordinators of the project, told a reporter of "Caucasian Knot" that the idea belonged to a volunteer association "Generation Lex" from Rostov branch of the Academy of Justice. Its point was, while maintaining the traditions, to review them in the modern reality. There were a lot of actions because of participation of a great number of municipal non-governmental communities in the project. The Don young doctors carried out an action called "White Chamomile" where the participants were making chamomiles which are a symbol of struggle against tuberculosis.

Pavel Kuchma, head of a group "Free-light", who gave a master class of creating pictures by light said that works of the association had already been presented in Rostov library named after Lomonosov. In spring their exhibition will be held in the Public library named after Chekhov in Taganrog.

A military and historical club "Slavic Squad" organized a master class on "Russian Juridical Combat". A traditional Cossack shop was open where half of the food items were made from cardboard and paper. "But do we not see the same kind of food in food stores nowadays?", Olya Goncharova, "owner" of the shop, says. There was also a workshop "Tattoo Shrovetide" where anyone could have one's face painted.

A show of clothes collection "Without a single seam" by Olga Konovod, Rostov designer, became a real triumph of paper. "Only wrapping paper, napkins and beads have been used for making these suits", Olga declared.
