Pyatigorsk: district militiaman sentenced to three years of colony for abuse of powers

The City Court of Pyatigorsk, Stavropol Territory, has passed a verdict of guilty to a district militiaman of the local OVD (Interior Division), who tried to improve his performance indicators by planting drugs on citizens and then "finding" them.

According to the press service of the Prosecutor's Office of the Stavropol Territory, the district militiaman devised a plot aimed to force one of his friends to plant narcotic substances on citizens with the aim to bring them later to criminal responsibility. To this end, he took personal belongings of his friend and brought them to the precinct police station. When his friend came to take his clothes back, the militiaman, according to investigators, beat him and warned that in case he refused to cooperate, he would be prosecuted for illegal drug possession.

The militiaman was convicted under "abuse of powers". The court sentenced him to deprivation of freedom for the term of 3 years with serving his term in a minimum security penal colony, the city newspaper "Evening Stavropol" writes.

The "Interfax-South" adds that the convict will be deprived of the right to occupy any state service posts for two years.
