In Astrakhan, a local resident dies of swine flu

On Monday, February 7, a 56-year-old local resident died in the Astrakhan Regional Infectious Hospital from complications caused by A/H1N1 influenza virus (swine flu).

"He died of pneumonia, which appeared as a result of complications caused by pathogenic flu," the hospital has reported.

The source said the man was too late to address for medical help, the "Interfax-South" reports.

Alina Goncharova, press secretary of the Ministry of Public Health of the Astrakhan Region, has also confirmed that the reason of the man's death was the developed double-sided pneumonia, caused by the complication, supposedly, after the flu. According to her story, the man turned to the medical facility only on the fifth day after symptoms appeared. Simultaneously, he suffered from severe concomitant diseases - diabetes mellitus, hypertension and obesity.

Ms Goncharova has also noted that doctors had used all possible intensive therapy methods, but the health condition of the patient was severely neglected, the IA "Vysota 102" writes.

Meanwhile, the incidence of influenza from A/H1N1 virus is also significantly growing in the neighbouring territory - the Volgograd Region. To date, the swine flu is suspected in 76 residents of the region; and one patient has died from the disease, writes the "Komsomolskaya Pravda" in Volgograd.
