Attempt on Elimkhanov is the main version of attack on checkpoint in Grozny

The main version of the investigation dealing with the case of the attack on the convoy of servicemen committed on January 9 in Grozny is an attempt to kill Bislan Elimkhanov, commander of the special-purpose battalion of the GRU (Russian Military Intelligence) (former "Zapad" (West) battalion).

Elimkhanov received seven serious wounds, but survived. Presumably, he was shot from a sniper rifle.

"The main fire was just at the car, where Bislan Elimkhanov was. Obviously, he had been shadowed, and the attack was not a spontaneous action, but a thoroughly prepared attack," a source from power agencies of the republic told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"Elimkhanov's driver – a contract serviceman Adam Isaev – was killed; five of his subordinates were injured; Elimkhanov survived by a miracle," the source said.
It had been stated initially that the attack on the convoy of the special battalion was committed by militants. But there is another version of the incident, which supposes that the attack on Beslan Elimkhanov was initiated by his personal enemies, who may be employees of one of the local law enforcement agencies.
