Residents of the town of Shakhty, Rostov region, are collecting signatures for the Mayor’s resignation

Residents of the town of Shakhty, Rostov region, have started collecting signatures under an appeal to President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev and Governor of the region Vasily Golubev demanding resignation of Mayor Sergey Ponamarenko.

Movable points are organized in the town where anyone can familiarize oneself with the complete text of the appeal to the President of the country and Governor of the region with the demand of Sergey Ponamarenko’s resignation and sign it if one wishes.

In particular, the document quoted by radio “Svoboda” runs: “A mayor who ignores public opinion considering himself sole master of the town has no right to head the administration. In accordance with clauses 74 and 75 of Federal law “On General Principles of Organizing Local Self-government in the Russian Federation” we ask you to dismiss the Mayor”.

The authors of the appeal consider it is through the fault of the Municipal administration and Ponamarenko personally that there is currently a tense criminogenic and grave social situation in Shakhty.

The signers of the appeal demand the Mayor’s resignation for the reason of loss of trust towards him. Violations during the election of the Head of the Municipality last March are listed among Sergey Ponamarenko’s blames.
