Prosecutor General’s of Abkhazia: the explosion in Gali district is not connected with the election
No connection between the grenade explosion on January, 9, as a result of which Gocha Jalagonia, nominee to Popular Assembly of the republic, was injured has been established. Prosecutor General’s of Abkhazia considers the incident a result of an act of hooliganism.
Today an official of Prosecutor General’s told a reporter of “Caucasian Knot” that on January, 9, at about 14:00, an explosion took place in a two meters distance from Chuburkhinj church. During the inspection of the place of the incident two fragments of a hand grenade PGD5 were found: the ring and the fuse. Parliament nominee Gocha Jalagonia and three people working at the cemetery were nearby at the moment.
According to Prosecutor General’s, the nominee was taken to Gali district hospital. No visible injuries were found on his body. He complained of strong headaches and therefore was transported to Agudzera hospital. But Jalagonia refused medical examination and left the hospital next morning.
According to a representative of the office, Jalagonia refused bearing testimony explaining it by strong headaches. Public prosecutor’s office of Gali district has started criminal proceedings on the fact of the explosion according to clause “Hooliganism”.
Jalagonia formerly stated that there had been an attempt at him.
It should be reminded that last Sunday, January, 9, early election to the Parliament of the republic was held in Chuburkhinj electoral district No 33, Gali district of Abkhazia. Ruslan Khishmaria who pulled 69 per cent of the votes was elected Deputy. Gocha Jalagonia lost the election.
