Activists of "The Other Russia" condemned in Rostov-on-Don

Activists of the party "The Other Russia" ("Drugaya Rossia") were sentenced to ten days of custody on December, 8, in Rostov-on-Don for insubordination to militia. The arrested people themselves consider that they were detained for the period of Prime-Minister Vladimir Putin's visit to the city.

"The judge of Kirov district court passed a judgment against me and Nikolay Getmantsev, we were sentenced to ten days of custody according to clause 19.3 of Administrative delinquency code "insubordination to militia", Grigory Elizarov, member of "The Other Russia", said to a reporter of "Caucasian Knot".

Elizarov explained that the court session began yet on October, 24, when he and Getmanstev were detained by militiamen in one of the central streets of the city.

"We gathered for political readings on Sunday as usual. We recite poems right in the street. For instance, Nikolay Getmantsev presents his own poems. On that day we were detained under the pretext of disorderly conduct and taking alcohol drinks. The court sessions lasted very long. Only now we were sentenced to ten days of custody", Elizarov said.

"The clue to the incident seems to have been very simple: Prime-Minister Vladimir Putin was arriving in Rostov-on-Don for the ceremony of opening the bridge across the Don. That is why it was decided to "close down" the oppositionists according to the rule "you never know what might happen!". For me it had been a new evidence that there was no court in Russia", Boris Batiy, activist of "United Civil Front" says.
