In Adygea, most of indigenous locals support Sochi Olympiad

In total, 61.8 percent of the indigenous population of Adygea supports the idea of holding the Winter Olympics in Sochi; however, 25.1 percent are still neutral in their attitude to the Games. Besides, most of respondents find it important to use Adyg symbols during the Olympiad - these are the results of the polling conducted in Adygea from January to August 2010.

"This sort of study was held in Adygea for the first time with the aim to investigate the issues relevant to the Adyg (Circassian) ethnic consciousness," said Vyacheslav Zhachemuk, chairman of the committee.

The customer of the study was the Committee of the Republic of Adygea on Nationalities, Ties with Compatriots and Media. The poll was conducted by specialists of the division of philosophy and sociology of the Adyg Republic's Institute of Humanitarian Studies within the large-scale study on the topic "Topical Socio-Political Problems of Adygea in Adygs' Mass Consciousness". The study involved 360 persons.

  • Rights defenders give number of kidnapped people in Chechnya

    At least 80 residents of Chechnya have been kidnapped after a car with a DUSTUM license plate was set on fire; volunteers have identified the names of a number of them.
