MCC confirms further detention of suspect in "Neva-Express" train explosion case

Today, the Moscow City Court (MCC) has ruled to leave Timur Kartoev, one of the defendants in the case of blowing up the "Neva-Express" train in 2009, in custody, although he had filed a complaint against the ruling to extend his detention.

Let us remind you that on November 1 the Basmanny Court of Moscow extended the detention of ten suspected figurants in the case of blowing up the "Neva-Express" train in autumn of 2009 till March 2, 2011.

Thus, the MCC has dismissed the cassation appeal of Timur Kartoev and his defence, in which they asked to replace his custody by some other measure, unrelated to deprivation of liberty, the "Interfax" reports.

Advocate Vadim Rodin stated during the trial that his client's detention was unlawful and unreasonable, because he has an alibi.

However, the MCC has chosen to uphold the position of the prosecutor, according to whom the district court had reasonably extended the detention of all the figurants; therefore the ruling should be upheld, the RAPSI (Russian Agency of Legal and Judicial Information) reports.
