Galina Kozhevnikova: the case of "White Wolves" is an attack upon the attempt to limit the jury trials

The case of "White Wolves" once again confirms that the jury trial, in case of proper work of the investigation, will not acquit the Nazis, Galina Kozhevnikova, Deputy Director of informational and analytic center "SOVA" said to a reporter of "Caucasian Knot".

"The defendants are adult and the penalty terms are adequate. Maybe the second figurant should have been sentenced to life imprisonment, too, but he had probably collaborated with the investigation, that is why he got such a commutation. No condolence in a case like this is possible. It will be better for everyone if these people benefit their country in a colony", Kozhevnikova said.

The defendants' attorneys turned out inaccessible. A reporter of "Caucasian Knot" found out that the defense had been based upon a commutation of the sentence in connection with the defendants' young age.

Galina Kozhevnikova told the reporter of "Caucasian Knot" that the case in court was advancing surprisingly quickly. At the same time, according to what she said, the case was being regarded by jury trial quite successfully. "This is one more attack upon the attempt to limit the jury trials for a law in draft of this kind has recently been to submitted for consideration of the Moscow municipal Duma. This case confirms once again that the jury trial, in case of proper work of the investigation, will never acquit the Nazis", this is the opinion of Deputy Director of center "SOVA".

"One may talk of our citizens' xenophobia as much as one likes but in spite of that they do not approve of murders. The murderers will be imprisoned. Generally speaking, we may be satisfied by the fact that our state is more and more firmly declaring its unreadiness to put up with such a situation and is rather competent in investigating murders on ethnic grounds", Kozhevnikova added.

This case of an adequate response of the court to crimes on ethnic grounds is typical generally for Moscow only, Deputy Director of center "SOVA" considers. "But the situation itself is probably not so acute in the rest of the regions. However, it is an expressive sign for both the Nazis and the society on the whole that the state is not going to put up with such murders. The situation has been this kind a year and a half or two only as yet but the number of assaults has reduced. This is a very good result", Kozhevnikova emphasized.
