Suicide bombers who attacked Chechen Parliament came in a taxi

Two of the three suicide bombers who attacked the building of the Chechen Parliament in Grozny in the morning of 19 October are still unidentified. The procedure is difficult, because their bodies torn into fragments by explosives belts are not subject to visual identification. Inspectors continue revealing new details of the incident.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by one of local law enforcers that it is already well-established that the bombers arrived in a taxi. "They told the taxi driver that they were securities of one of the deputies and were late for their work. Since they were in military uniform, it aroused no suspicion in the driver. When the taxi drove up to the parliament building, the bandits waited until the guards opened the gate to pass the car of one of the MPs in, ran after it, and one of the terrorists immediately blew him up," said the source.

The other two, according to his story, ran into the building through one of the doors, but were blocked by deputies' guards and special agents who soon arrived. After the skirmish that burst out then, the bandits, having spent their ammunition, triggered their "shahid belts", which were attached to their bodies in such a way as to make identification impossible.

The source also said that one of the bombers - Muslim Chichkanov - was identified only because of fragments of his mobile phone. "When in the parliament building, the militants telephoned Gakaev," said the source and added that power agents have virtually no doubt that the crime was organized by Gakaev.

Along with that, some observers believe that the militants' attack on the parliament building looks rather "timely". "Russian Interior Minister Nurgaliev is now in Grozny, same as deputies from one of Russian regions, and here - all of a sudden - we see this attack. Moreover, none of the numerous MPs suffered, while ordinary militiamen and a technical worker were lost. Should the militants have targeted at the Speaker of the Parliament or someone else from republic's leaders, in principle, no one could have stopped them from realizing their plans," said a local observer, who asked for security reasons not to name him.

He could not rule out that the attack was staged. The observer did not specify by whom exactly, but drew attention to the fact that after the incident a deputy head of Russia's presidential administration came to Grozny and openly supported Ramzan Kadyrov, who next year will face the procedure of re-election to the post of the president of the republic.
