Suicide bomber blows himself up in Dagestan

A suicide bomber who drove an UAZ van triggered an explosion at the entry to the militia base in the city of Khasavyurt in Dagestan, the local GOVD (City Interior Department) reports.

"A suicide bomber tried to get in his UAZ into location of the militia unit, but the road was blocked by an armoured Ural truck. As a result, the car with the suicide bomber blew up at the entrance," the GOVD said.

At the same time, a source of the "Caucasian Knot" reports that the explosion occurred in the territory, where one of the three internal troops units, which have recently arrived in the republic, is stationed. According to the source, the other day contractors recruited in St Petersburg came to Khasavyurt and were placed there.

According to preliminary reports, one militiaman was killed, and some 6-7 more were injured, the "Interfax" reports.

According to calculations of the "Caucasian Knot", since early 2010 Northern Caucasus suffered from 11 attacks committed by 13 suicide bombers, in which, apart from bombers themselves, 50 persons were lost and 316 wounded.
