Ex-chief of investigation unit of Department of Interior Affairs detained in Stavropol district for suspicion of bribetaking

Roman Tolstikov, ex-chief of investigation unit of Department of Interior Affairs was detained in Stavropol for suspicion of an attempt of taking a bribe of one million rubles.

It has been formerly reported about starting criminal proceedings against the chief of a specialized investigative department for crimes in the economic sphere and chief of investigation unit of Department of Interior Affairs in Stavropol, both suspected of an attempt and complicity in taking a bribe of one million rubles. 

It was reported that Vitaly Khnyazhev, chief of a specialized investigative department for crimes in the economic sphere, had tried to extort a bribe from a man accused of illegal entrepreneurship. He promised to stop criminal prosecution for one million rubles. Roman Tolstikov was a go-between in this action.

Upon the results of supplementary inspection, criminal proceedings have been started only against Roman Tolstikov, chief of investigation unit of Department of Interior Affairs in Stavropol, according to point 3 clause 30, point 5 clause 159 of the Criminal code of the Russian Federation (attempt of swindle with the use of one's authority on a big sum), the web-site of the Investigative Department of Investigation Committee of the Russian Federation in Stavropol district reports.

The personnel of the office say that there is not enough data yet indicating to any signs of a crime in Vitaly Khnyazhev's actions.

At present the investigation has submitted an application to court to select a measure of restriction for Tolstikov in form of preadjudication detention.
